Good thing I'm heading to southern California on business next week and not northern California. Other than unknowns like the timing belt service and the condition of the front seats, I'm totally sold. Would it be a shame to daily it in the North Woods? Probably, but I'd suffer through it and ask for forgiveness later.

Let's see, I need some excuses... uh, yeah, FWD, engine pointed the wrong way, uhhh that's it... shit it's a red V6 Alfa Romeo I still want it. If I didn't buy the Fairlane a couple weeks ago I'd go get this, like, now. And I'm now still thinking about it anyway. You're killin' me, smalls!

wait you actually did pull the trigger on the Fairlane? AWESOME. How did I miss that?

Also, the look of this is enough to convince me

All the S's, 1991-93, were manual. The 94-95 Q's were all manual, and I think they only brought in 200 of those. Still. I'd take almost any variety of 164.

I know the numbers on S were no more than a couple hundred stateside, and I was semi aware they were all stick, never having seen one as an auto. L and LS they brought in THOUSANDS though

The funny thing is, my wife has an irrational dislike for 164s. I think a colleague of hers in Hong Kong had one and while she got along okay with him, she took a dislike to his car (I know...*). A while back there was a 164L on eBay with an S engine, transmission, and suspension. I was looking for a car at the time, and she was kind of sick of hearing about the latest great car I had found. When I brought up the Alfa (in NY, we are in MN), she rolled her eyes and said, "Do whatever you want."

I should have. Next time I will.

* I should clarify that my wife is a total car person. The good/bad with that is, she has very strong opinions.

yeah it is a blessing and a curse having a car person as the other half. I got away with it for years having nutty shit in the drive because it had 4 wheels and ran and got me to work. My current is just enough of one to be interested, having grown up around her dad who is a goddamn nutcase about old cars (father DD a pre war bentley for a decade when she was young), but not in tune enough to know she hates something inherently because of a quality issue or reputation. She is a Jeep girl until her WK Grand Cherokee which is a steaming pile of shit (if only she had known!). Now I have her on the brink of a super jaloppomobile.

But I have never known a woman to dislike an Alfa - ever

My wife thankfully likes other Alfas - she had no problem when I considered buying an 84 Spider as a MN daily driver. I'm working under the assumption she'll come around when and if she drives a 164.

She questioned our monkey-butt-ugly, Conforti-chipped, $680.00 E28 535i under she played with third gear on some fun backroads. She was genuinely bummed when we sold that car a couple of years later, even with the goofball problems it had during out tenure.

Hehe, yeah, it needs front floors. I can see daylight. They're cheap. I've been driving it every day, it runs solid.

you found them for a 4 door? That is great! Or who cares, weld some plate steel in there and you are done with it

Not for 4 door, from what I've read the 2 door pans should work. But they're something like $117, so no big deal. It wouldn't be hard to bend up some sheetmetal to fit either, and I've got a MIG at the shop.

I almost bought one because of that exact same thing.
